Abbott India Celebrates 100 Years

Abbott India kicked off a year-long celebration to recognize its centennial and many achievements since the establishment of operations, way back in 1910. A formal inauguration ceremony showcased progress and milestones.

Throughout the coming year, Abbott India will conduct a series of programs, patient campaigns and employee engagement initiatives to reinforce Abbott values and strengthen our presence with key customers and stakeholders.

Positioned as a Leader

Abbott India has made the most of its first 100 years, now operating as one of the fastest-growing multinational pharmaceutical companies in India. As Abbott competes on an increasingly global playing field, Abbott India is well-positioned to be a significant player. India is an increasingly important market for Abbott, and is becoming a base from which our company will expand into other emerging markets.

Abbott India currently offers a range of products that reach nearly 50 million patients and holds leadership positions within the Indian market in several product categories, including both primary care therapeutics, such as gastroenterology and pain care, and specialty care therapeutics and products, such as interventional cardiology. In addition, Abbott India's nutritional business is the second largest in the country, with PediaSure® being a market leader.

Abbott India regularly conducts educational "patient camps" related to diabetes, nutrition and thyroid disease. Abbott India also partners with many government and non-governmental organizations to help deliver healthcare.

A rich heritage

India was one of the first big markets Abbott entered, along with the U.S., United Kingdom and Canada. The first Abbott site in India was a distribution warehouse with a team of just 15 employees, located on Mahatma Gandhi Road in the city of Mumbai, then known as Bombay. Over the years, Abbott India has built its presence, becoming a leader across various therapies. There are now 4,000 Abbott employees in India. Nearly 95 percent of the Abbott products sold there are manufactured in-country and distributed to 350,000 retailers.
